Hail Damage? The White Combine Strikes!

Jul 30, 2020

Every farmer fears the white combine. We have have gone years without any and then have the entire farm totaled out in one season. Farms typically do carry some hail insurance which should cover expenses but rarely do you come out on top. Overall we are grinding away at harvest preparation and each day inching closer to being ready while the crop continues to ripen. Let's do this!

  • Idk if you'll ever read this but we have had hail for 8 years in a row now. We had one come through it mowed it off you could see dirt I have pictures if youd want to see it was bad I saw a couple of dead animals laying out in the field and when it mows the grass off and kills animals you know it was bad. They gave us like 100% so now we have lost half out wheat and sunflower crop and almost all our pasture due to that one hail storm. A guy we know lost 31 quarters to it i hate the white stuff

  • Bob, Explain the way hail insurance works. Is it a break-even, or turn a small profit? Think Hollywood pointed that you can claim a percent, vs total loss.

    Rob BRob B4 months ago
    • @Rob B the insurance coverage is what level you buy. Ex: For 50 dollar an acre coverage 100% loss pays $50 . 10%loss pays10. You decide what risk level you can accept and pay the premium for that level. It's not based on crop prices. If borrowing money to farm hail insurance is mandatory.

      Robert WelkerRobert Welker3 months ago
    • @Robert Welker About what % does the insurance cover loss? Does wheat/bean price that week be involved in any way? So say you have 100% loss. Would you turn a profit to invested planting and care?

      Rob BRob B3 months ago
    • They take a row with 50 plant tillers, sometimes 100. The damaged ones, whether broke or kernels stripped, to get the % of damage. So if you have 30% damaged then a $100/acre coverage would be $30 payment.

  • Been sort of holding my breath for the farmers around here, mid west. The crops look real good everything is nice and green except for some grain turning. I know a couple minutes of hail could change all of that. Looks like God takes care of His own, the best partner you can have.

    Larry StockwellLarry Stockwell4 months ago
  • That’s one thing when you plant that crop you don’t know whether you will ever get you’re money back, course farmers are optimistic and you usually get you’re money back, that’s the gamble you take. I know I farmed for 44 Yrs here inTexas, 90 miles south west of Houston. Now retired and enjoying it. Here we worry about Hurricanes😁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  • You told me that you don't need a hgv license as long as you're within 150 miles from the farm, BUT.. Do the trucks have to be at the same standard as other trucks that ply the roads across the country daily.?😘😘 UK. Rich.

Its the same content as its always been, presentation is better of course - more you do something, better you get... but the content is the same daily farm life. Which is great by the way! Zack Johnsons is also just as good as its always been, but he gets the same criticism... maybe its like when your favourite band gets popular and they're accused of selling out?!! I've been watching both channels for a long time and they're as good as always.. keep it up!.
